Please Answer the Following Questions

If you could apologize to one of your characters, which one would it be and why? Do you think they would accept your apology or would they go nuts throwing heavy, breakable things at you?

Cole Winter, the lead character and narrator from “Advocate For The Dead.” I put him through every loss imaginable on his way to redemption. I’m not sure if he would apologize or not. That was a lot of abuse πŸ˜‰

Which post and/or character are you most proud of?

This is like the impossible question as I am proud of a lot of my characters. Part of my storytelling process is changing characters. Bringing them to a point of redemption, forgiveness, or anything that will make them better than how they started. So, in that sense I have favorite characters in all that I write. As for a favorite post, I’m most recently proud of the final post for “Time Of Our Death”. Not only did it complete my 2016 NANOWRIMO project, but it was also very satisfying to me as a reader discovering my own story for the first time.

How would you describe your writing style?

First person, straight forward, as if I’m sitting amongst friends telling them something that happened to me.

If you could change one thing about your blog, what would it be?

I have no idea, lol….more visits maybe πŸ˜‰

What is the best comment you’ve received on your blog?

If someone even takes the time to comment , they are the best. I have some regular readers who comment on my writing and that helps propel me along in what I’m trying to do here. I take every compliment, praise, critique, or opinion as wonderful things. I just feel blessed that I get a comment at all. πŸ™‚

Do you think your writing style has improved since you started blogging?

I would like to think so, but I’m the worse judge of my own work. Often I have written something I think is crappy and it turns out to be someone’s favorite part. But yes, I guess I do feel like I have gone through changes in my writing style. I just can’t pinpoint what they are.

And, for the sheer random fun of it, if you had to be stranded on a deserted island with one of your characters, who would it be? And which one of your characters would you dread being stranded on a deserted island with?

Again, this is one of those difficult questions, despite it’s fun quality. I could pick characters from every story I’ve written to answer this , but I’ll try to get it narrowed down. Right now at this point in writing, Haru from “vampire boys of summer” would be my pick of who to be stranded with. He seems to be honorable and straight up, someone you could trust. Now, as for one I would dread to be stranded with. Definitely The Kaledioscope Killer from “Advocate For The Dead “

The Questions:

What do you hope to gain from blogging?

I just want to get my work out there and hopefully build new readers and friendships in the process. Until blogging, i feel my work just sat there unseen for the most part. Now I’m able to share what I do on an almost daily basis.

What genre of film entertains you the most?

I have varied film interests, but i really am crazy about Italian horror films from the 80’s, especially the work of Dario Argento. Suspiria is one of my favorite films ever. The visuals and atmosphere alone will creep you out, and the music just adds to it.

I also love classics like To Kill A Mockingbird and Wizard Of Oz.

Do you consider yourself a writer, and what inspires you to write?

Yes, I am a writer. I self published my first book, and it was inspired by the place i worked at the time. Normally however, i draw inspiration from just about everywhere, beginning with music. A perfect song can get the creative juices flowing.

Why did you choose your particular WordPress username?

I use my own name as my username. I believe in keeping it real πŸ˜‰ I named my blog, Paul Writes, because i wanted it simple and to say what it was I was trying to do with my blog. Made sense, you know.

What is your favourite book, and why does it speak to you?

I don’t know if i have a real favorite, but one of my most read books is “Wicked” by Gregory Macguire. His Oz series is freaking amazing on so many levels.

What is your favourite song, and why does it speak to you?

This is like the impossible question. I have so many favorites depending on my mood and genre I’m listening to. With that said, been listening to a lot of 80’s music, because my NaNoWriMo project is set then. One of my favorites from that era is “Alive and Kicking” by Simple Minds.

What is your favourite photograph, and why does it speak to you?

My favorite photo is of my wife and I sitting on the edge of a rock overhang shortly after we first met. The look on our faces speaks to me so much, as it seems to capture the newness of first love. Whenever I’m writing characters that become couples it’s the model I use πŸ™‚

The Liebster Award

Very special thanks and much gratitude to Just A Young Reader (https://justayoungreader.wordpress.com) for nominating me for the Liebster Award.

 The rules for nomination are:

Answer all 11 given questions.

Nominate 5 notable blogs which have at most 200 followers.

Create 11 fresh questions for the bloggers to answer.

My Answers to Just A Young Reader’s Questions:

1. What inspired the name of your blog?

I wanted something simple that would state my blog’s purpose and what it is I am trying to do. “Paul Writes” just seemed to fit.

2. What inspired you to blog what you blog?

I have always wanted to be a writer, it seems. From a young age, I was always crafting stories. The blog gives me a means to showcase both current and older works to a potentially wider audience than my circle of friends at home. I started out online in poetry and writing groups, and eventually ended up writing my first book, Resurrection Diaries, in a blog similar to this one.

3. What do you consider as your most favorite blog post?

I have a hard time selecting a fave, but I really do enjoy working on my serialized paranormal teen adventure, “Vampire Boys Of Summer”. And hopefully, the readers who drop by like it, too.

4. How you feel about your nomination for the Liebster Award?

I consider it an honor that anyone would nominate me for anything. To be recognized by an individual for my work is truly what my writing has been about from the beginning. To bring enjoyment and entertainment to others through the written word. Whether it’s poetry or short stories, it’s all about making others feel something, so I’m very grateful to be nominated.

5. What is your preferred topic to blog about?

Though I like exploring various themes and topics, I really enjoy paranormal stories, as they allow me to play with, not just the reader’s imagination, but my own.

6. What is your favorite food, and what thoughts does it instigate as you are reading this question?

Chinese. Right now I’m thinking sweet and sour chicken for lunch. Beyond that however, I’m thinking I need to write a scene that takes place in an Asian restaurant.

7. If you were to choose anything (including people) to blog about at this moment, what would it be?

I think it would be interesting to blog about how music influences nearly everything about us. As a writer, and even in terms of my personality, I find music to be a big influence on how I view myself and my world.

8. How do you feel about your blog,e.g. Do you feel proud of it, do you feel it could gain more followers, etc.?

Yes, I am proud of my blog. It seems to have come a long way in just a few months. I have had the blog for a year or two, but I wasn’t really doing anything with it. Now, I am posting in it daily , and I have watched it gain momentum. I’m happy with its growth spurt, and I would love to see it grow even further. My short term goal is 100 followers. Still, hashing out my long term goals πŸ˜‰

9. Who or what would you consider as the chief driving force behind the creation of your blog?

My love of creating stories. I love making up stories in my head so the blog  helps me get them out of there and into written form. My wife has also been a driving factor. As I read my work to her, I get a feel for what works and what doesn’t. Her excitement  over my latest serial compelled me to start including it on the blog, and inspiring me to get back to work on my writing.

10. How do you manage your blog, e.g. How do you keep it clean and organized?

I’m not sure that I keep it very clean πŸ˜‰ I guess I try to make custom categories, and apply an image to each, so that the reader can visually recognize something they are following or interested in. I also like to apply latest posts with the ‘featured’ tag, so they will be at the top of the page. Other than that, my organization is pretty lax at the moment.

11. What is your favorite part about blogging?

I enjoy sharing my work in this kind of medium. Before the blog experience, I did the groups and forum thing, and before that I just shared with family and friends. The blog has the potential  of having my writing being seen by a wider audience. I firmly believe that in the art of storytelling, keeping it to yourself almost defeats the purpose. Stories are meant to be told, and every reader helps the story breathe itself into life.
